Sunday, August 22, 2004 Garden State: Movie of the Year I don't know what I can say about this movie, aside from the fact I haven't seen a more affecting, more impressive, more relatable, more schizophrenic film in years. Throughout the movie, I was telling myself, this movie can't be this good, it just can't. They're gonna drop the ball somehow towards the end. The joke's are gonna start getting stale. Someone's gonna die for no reason other than dying. Hell, maybe the soundtrack will start to annoy. But no; this movie is absolutely perfect. And the three others I went with all agreed, no one had seen a better film this year. For anyone who's ever left home, this movie is you on-screen. For anyone who has made a mistake in their life that they can focus on, one that they know has changed their life completely, one little thing, this movie is for you. For anyone who can appreciate both laughing heartily, and in the next split second, feel complete and utter desolation, this movie is for you. This movie was so fucking good, I needed a cigarette afterwards. Go see this movie. Don't wait until DVD... this a film that must be experienced, must be supported, must be cherished. The guy that wrote and directed Garden State is funny. I like things that are funny. They make me laugh. |
