I Am John's Stomach Pains. On The Precipice of Mediocrity, Teetering |
Thursday, September 08, 2005 The Alien Sitting In My Home III: Fall of The Geek It's that time again, in which our hero must face his demons and decide how to best attack the pixels and sounds being thrown at him from the idiot box. And no, I still don't have TiVo... although I am getting close to succumbing. This season has a bunch of new shows on the horizon, so while I'm including them here, chances are some of them will fall by the wayside? My prediction? Bones being the first one on the chopping block, mostly because it's on Fox, and Fox sucks balls when it comes to good shows. Update: After reviewing the list, and realizing I need to get out more, I'm crossing out a few... Sunday 8:00 [Tape] - The West Wing(NBC). This is a probably, only because in the past three weeks, I've zoomed through S1 and S2 on DVD, plus caught numerous reruns on Bravo, and I've become addicted. If you've never watched it, I highly recommend picking up the DVD set, it'll get you hooked. 9:00 - Family Guy & American Dad (FOX). The only smart move Fox has pulled in the past decade has been bringing Family Guy back. Better than South Park. Better than Simpsons, now. The show is a random-humor fan's wet-dream. American Dad may struggle, but it's still good for laughs. 10:00 - Grey's Anatomy (ABC). Surprisingly fun show form last season, even if it pissed me off to no end that Boston Legal was bumped because of it. You may note that Desperate Housewives is not listed. That's because I've realized the show sucks, and I'm amazed I was so dumb to watch the entire season last year. Monday... probably the least fanatic night of the week. 8:00 - Arrested Development & Kitchen Confidential (FOX). I'm in total love with AD's humor, and KC stars both Bradley Cooper and Nick Brendon (not to mention the sexy Jamie King), so these two are a no-brainer 9:00 - Prison Break (FOX). I've caught the first two eps, and am very intrigued, mostly because it's looking like the second half of the season will most likely take place after the break... hope so, because if not, then the show could get very boring... 'cause come on, at least Oz had the anal rapes. 10:00 - Medium (NBC). I may be a fan of the show, but not really must see. I like the idea of the kids growing up with the mom's powers, and that has promise... plus the show seems fairly procedural, so if an ep is missed, not that big of a deal. 10:00 [Tape] - CSI: Miami (CBS). I've actually started to like the show a bit more last season... probably because Speedle was dead and the ick-factor of Horatio and his "dead"-bro's wife was lessened. Hope Emily Proctor is still on the show... that accent kills me. Tuesday... which has seemed to reclaimed Too Good to be Truesday status 8:00 - Gilmore Girls (WB). Last season was a return to greatness, and the break between mother and daughter, along with the engagement of L&L should prove awesome. Hope, hope, hope this isn't the last season... oh, and BTW, fuck you Emmy's for the Lauren Graham snub. 8:00 [Tape 1] - Bones (FOX). I dig procedurals, and with this one starring Boreanaz and Deschanel, it's at the top of my must-see's. Episodes-Before-Cancellation: 7. 8:00 [Tape 2] - NCIS (CBS). With Sasha Alexander's character being killed last season in the biggest Holy Shit moment in all the finales, the show's appeal is a bit lacking for me, but I'll catch the first few, see how they cope. 9:00 - House (FOX) - I've said it before, but easily the best medical show to cross the screen in years. Great characters, great acting, great storylines. 9:00 [Tape 1] - Supernatural (WB) - Stars two WB mainstays, plus it's a horror show. Must for me... of course, it's reminding me a bit of Freakylinks and Dead Last, and those fell apart quickly. 9:00 [Tape 2] - My Name is Earl & The Office (NBC) - Jason Lee. Steve Carrell. Comic Geniuses. 'Nuff said. 10:00 - Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (NBC). Best procedural on TV. And it's only gotten better every year. 10:00 [Tape] - Boston Legal (ABC) - Spader. William FUCKING Shatner. And now, Heather. I'll miss Monica Potter... but shit, it's Heather Locklear. Wednesday... In which Holz gives The Finger to programming directors 8:00 - One Tree Hill (WB). Has one of the best villain's on the tube, and for teen angst Dawson-y viewing, it's adequate. 9:00 - Lost (ABC). 9:00 [Tape 1] - Veronica Mars (UPN). My two favorite shows from last season, and OF COURSE they're up against eachother. Only reason I'm taping Veronica is because Lost has a bigger following, and if by some chance I fall asleep before catching my tape, I don't wanna be spoiled at work the next day... oh, who am I kidding, when do I go to sleep without watching my tapes? 10:00 - Invasion (ABC). A gamble, but I think the show might have a chance... and if you thought I wouldn't be watching an alien show, you just don't know me. 10:00 [Tape] - Law & Order (NBC). Mainstay. Always good to have on tape to fall asleep / wake up to. Thursday... In which Holz gives program directors The Shiv... honestly, what the hell? This just sucks. Aside from NBC's Joey/W&G pairing, every station has something I want/need to watch... and since I've only got three viewing slots open to me, it will be as follows: 8:00 - The OC (FOX). Since this is one of the only show's my roommate watches, I'll be seeing this live. The sophomore slump of the first half of the season recovered towards the end, and I have my fingers crossed that the show will return to S1 glory. 8:00 [Tape 1] - Alias (ABC). Nothing will make me drop this show, even the nearly-confirmed departure of a character or the rumor of the Rambaldi arc being completely abandoned. With Lost on solid footing, I predict JJ returning to the show to give it a swift kick. 8:00 [Tape 2] - Smallville (WB). Fortress of Solitude. More Chloevage. Aquaman. James Marsters as Brainiac. And the possibility of hearing the words "Kneel Before Zod"? Not dropping this one either. 9:00 - CSI (CBS). Tarantino's finale last year was just amazing, and it's bound to have some interesting character impacts on Nick and Gil, as well as the others... can't wait. 9:00 [Tape 1] - Everwood (WB). Just plain good television. 9:00 [Tape 2] - Reunion (FOX). Could be great. Hoping for good. Worried about mediocrity. Still, I'll be watching. 9:00 [???] - Being the X-Files fan I am, I was obviously looking forward to Nightstalker... but from what I've heard it's just not worth it Friday... In which my tapes work hard, while I'm hopefully out. Joan of Arcadia was cancelled for this show... I just won't watch it out of spite... even if Thelma and Louise are prevalent. 8:00/9:00/10:00 [Tape 2] - Stargate: SG-1 / Stargate: Atlantis / Battlestar Galactica (SCIFI). Truth be told, I haven't bee watching much of these this season because I missed the first 5 eps of each because I didn't have SciFi. Hopefully they'll reset and rerun all the eps soon. Saturday. Most likely watching all the shows on tape that I missed... either that, or some theater-hopping. Maybe I should catch up on some reading. ...holy crap, I just added that up, and it's about 35 hours of TV... just over 24 hours if you take out commercials... I think I'll be needing to take some of those out... damnit! Update: So, that's a bit better, I took out five shows... it's a start. posted by Holz | 4:39 PM | Rant & Rave, Bitches! (6) 6 Comments:

How am I ever going to have grandchildren when you wont turn off the TV????
The issue I have with DVRs is while I know I would love it, the thruth is it can't handle my watching. I need to be able to watch something, and tape two other things... DVRs can't handle it at the moment, so I'd have to use a VCR anyway. By Holz, at 9/12/2005 4:31 PM |
