Avast.
Okay, so I said I was gonna comment on the Lost finale the next day, and it's now been over a week... oh well. Anyway, as you coulda guessed I absolutely loved "Through The Looking Glass", easily the best finale of the season (I'll probably get my thoughts up on the other shows soon enough), but really no show came even close to the sheer joy of the Lost send-off... can't believe we have to wait til fucking February until the next episode. Here's hoping they'll do something like The Lost Experience from last summer.
Couple things from the episode itself... there was one point I got really mad at the show. Right before Grizzly-Jack went into the funeral home, I noticed he was using a MotoralaKRZR, and I instinctively said "Damnit, the props department screwed up, that phone only came out last year, and the show is only supposed to be occurring in 2004." Couple seconds later, Grizzly-Jack nearly gets run over with what I swore was a Saturn Aura, and that car only came out last year, too, so I was really annoyed... thankfully, with the revelation of the Flash Forward (for those who didn't know, the name of the funeral home was Hoffs/Drawlar, an anagram for Flash Forward), all my nit-picking went to the wayside...
...except of course the mention of his father being alive... I suppose we can just write that up to the ramblings of a drug addict not knowing what's going on, but still, it was my only real irk with the whole thing.
Let's see... who's in the coffin? Well, I'm under the assumption that in this future, only a small number of people got off the island. Jack & Kate, obviously, and if we trust Desmond's prophecy, Claire & Aaron. If it turns out the the evil people on the boat are the Dharma Initiative, I imagine they'd want Ben as well, just to interrogate. And the coffin was pretty small... so I imagine it's either Ben or Claire. Since Jack answered the "friend or family?" with a "Neither", I'm leaning towards Ben. Of course, if it was mumbled, and he really said "Either", it could just be his half-sister Claire.
Hurley kicked serious ass. Easily had my favorite line of the show, "Attention Others, come in Others...", not to mention the whole "I saved 'em all" run-down.
Other stuff... sad to see Charlie go, but the truth is, his story had run its course. Dominic was always one of my favs on the shows, and for me personally, he no longer has that Hobbit aura about him for me anymore. Still, the sendoff worked, and I found his sacrifice worth it. The door could only be locked from the inside, and it was clear Desmond would have done anything to talk to Penny.
Anyway, in other Fellowship news, I caught Pirates of The Caribbean 3: At World's End last weekend. Despite what alot of naysayers may be uttering, this is truly the first great movie I've seen in months. Admittedly, it is incredibly confusing to follow, but I had no trouble understanding the motivations of all the characters. Each character gets their own little wrap-up to their individual story that I really liked, and they leave Jack Sparrow's tale wide-open for future films.
The final action scene was amazing, with tons of side things going on, that never felt forced or distracting from the other events. The "wedding" scene had me enthralled, and even the little "undead-monkey" subplot had some great laughs. Giving it 4 out of 5 Stars, only because Calypso's story ended kinda flat for me, and they under-utilized Chow Yun-Fat, which is just sacrilege.
I ranted on my blog about it too. I did notice the whole "Jack's dad isn't dead" thing and thought it was really dumb. You're way more observant than me though picking up on the impossible props and the word scramble.
With Charlie's death, it's funny how they told us months ago that he was going to die and yet I never really believed it. I wonder if Des will get the "Not Penny's Boat" thing. I also wonder if this underground lair will become the new Hatch although it seems they haven't taken advantage of any other hatches since the first went kablooey. I also found it odd that they never moved into the "town" that the others abandoned.
