BSG Razor: Frakking Good Time

Swung down to San Rafael with Night Nurse on Monday night to catch a sneak preview of the upcoming Sci-Fi movie, Battlestar Galactica: Razor. It was pretty good, and definitely had everything that's made the show so good these past few years. The new main character the flick is based around is awesome, and even though she's coming in without any established backstory (that I know of), she easily becomes part of the BSG established mythos. The ending is both interesting and frustrating (for any fans of The Stand, there's a moment that reminded me of Nick's death).

Plus: old school Cylons!

I had some problems with it, mostly stemming from the fact that you *really* had to know ever single episode of the show to get alot of the stuff, and seeing as the movie is basically set around season 2 - which is when I missed a few episodes - I was a little lost. I also didn't watch any of the webisodes leading up to the flick, so I think I missed a little background on young Helena Cain and Adama.

You can just imagine how Kris felt, as she had maybe seen half an episode that I was watching. I had to lean over a few times to tell her when a human Cyclon showed up... then afterwards trying to explain just who The Four are and the whole Starbuck is-she-or-isn't-she conundrum we fans are facing in the final season.

Speaking of, afterwards they aired a 30 second preview of the upcoming final season, and it just looks balls to the wall. Tigh pointing a gun at Adama, Starbuck in jail, possibly tortured, and Baltar (who sadly wasn't in the movie) leading some religious movement and healing people. Should be awesome.

I don't think the flick did much for a non-fan like Night Nurse, as I had to also explain that Six and Starbuck were not the same person, and just what the hell "frak" meant... she thought it was stupid and they shoulda just said fuck (or nothing at all). But she was a trooper, and the movie choice is definitely in her corner now.

Battlestar is awesome, it sounds like they will be ending "too soon" rather than "too late" which is a much better choice. It is stupid to drag series along as far as they can go (and then much farther). I haven't watched the web stuff yet, but I plan too.

Good stuff, can't wait for the new season to begin. I just hope they come up with a good story with what is going on with Starbuck, I'm a little worried they'll screw up her coming-back-from-the-dead deal
