This Slate article is pretty informative on the questio that when the government tried to implement more loans to discriminated minorites for homes, it was the cause of the financial crisis we're in. It wasn't. Surprise.
Holz: Fortunate Son?
I don't think I ever mentioned this before, but I have some political blood flowing through my veins. My great-great-great-grandfather, William Rufus deVane King was Vice President of the United States, for Franklin Pierce.
Last weekend, Andy Rooney mentioned him on 60 minutes in a section on vice president. Here's the link if you care to see it.
And yeah, I read the gay rumors, too. Make all the jokes you want.
...ETA: according to this link, King died un-married, and I haven't found any mention of children. I'm wondering if he's only a great-great-great-granduncle. If so, that's a family story alot of us have taken for granted.
...hmph. I actually found his will online, and there's no mention of children. He was pretty generous though. His nephew got 65 of his negroes.
5,000 yrs vs 6 Billion
Interesting study on IQ and belief in biblical literalism. Not really surprising, however there is some interesting explanations as to socio-economic reasons, and causality within the statistical analysis... the follow-up post is also quite informative.
"You have a Midland accent" is just another way of saying "you don't have an accent." You probably are from the Midland (Pennsylvania, southern Ohio, southern Indiana, southern Illinois, and Missouri) but then for all we know you could be from Florida or Charleston or one of those big southern cities like Atlanta or Dallas. You have a good voice for TV and radio.

I haven't enjoyed reading Garfield comics since I was, oh, 9 years old. But who would've guessed all one would need for hilarity is to remove the sad sack of orange fur and leave the real lead of the strip, Jon Arbuckle. Enjoy.
Left vs. Right Test (Non-Politics)
Got this link from Sully, and I'm not too sure what to make of it. When I first got to the page, I saw the dancer going counter-clockwise. However, a few seconds later and a re-look I saw her going clockwise, and I've yet to get her to go back to counter-clockwise. I find it strange coming out as a right brained person (even though I'm left-handed), because I always considered myself a logical person, not ruled by flights of fancy. Who knows though, maybe it's crap.

Anyway, got a survey link from Sully today on how morals come into play in regards to one's political leanings, and my results are below. Not much of a surprise overall, really. I'm nearly perfectly in line with other liberals in regards to Fairness and Purity (the first is high priority, the second is incredibly subjective and holds little importance to me).
Another non-surprise is how close I am to conservatives in regards to Loyalty and Authority. I'm a strong supporter of law enforcement, and having respect for those who's job it is to enforce order. Case in point, the recent tasering incident from the Kerry speech. Did the campus police go to far? In hindsight, probably, but in cases where one has to make a split second decision, I side with the law nearly every time. It's this simple: stop acting like an asshole, and we won't treat you like an asshole. Do some take their authority too far? Of course they do, but I'm not going to judge a whole group by the bad actions of the few.
Suck It, Righties.
Today is Left-Hander's Day. Now is the time my brothers and sisters to rise up and fight the establishment that deems us freaks. We have as my much rights as anyone, no pun intended!
And oh yeah, I'm determined to get back into the blogging swing of things this week.
